Guide for Your Maternity Session

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.

Hi! I’m Renata Figueiredo, a photographer specializing in maternity, newborn, and family sessions.

Your session begins long before the day of the photoshoot.

Clothing choices, location, timing, and preparation all play an important role in creating elegant and natural photographs.

This guide was created to help you prepare with confidence and enjoy the experience from beginning to end.

How Does the Session Work?

  • Around 2 hours.
  • Feel free to bring your partner, kids, or even your pet.
  • I’ll help you with poses, outfits, ideas, and anything else you need.
  • My direction is relaxed and natural, with the focus on simply enjoying the moment!

    • Prefer to wear your hair down.
    • Avoid hair creases: skip clips and headbands on the day of the session.
    • Shimmer or heavy highlighter can reflect too much in bright light: go for a matte finish instead.
    • Light lipstick or a natural lip color is ideal.

    Nails

Your hands appear a lot in the photos, both yours and your husband’s.

    • Well-groomed nails make a big difference, especially in delicate moments, like when you’re holding your belly together.

    • Light or soft nail colors photograph beautifully, but the most important thing is that you feel like yourself.

    • And one more thing: your husband should also have clean, trimmed nails. These small details make the photos even more beautiful.

    What to Wear

You don’t have to stick to light colors only.

The most important thing is to wear solid pieces, without prints, and make sure your outfit matches your husband’s or partner’s and your children’s clothing.

If the session will take place in a green area, like the Botanical Garden or a park, it’s best to avoid green clothing so you don’t blend into the background.

In these locations, colors that create contrast look beautiful, such as:

    • Earth tones (caramel, terracotta, rust, mustard)
    • Burnt orange
    • White and off-white
    • Pink and burgundyosa, vinho, marsala

At the beach, white and off-white always work beautifully, but you can also wear:

    • Pastel tones (rose, lavender)
    • Coral or soft orangeoral ou laranja suave

If you’re unsure, feel free to send me your outfit options and I’ll help you choose.

    Pets in the Session

Your pet is absolutely welcome to join the session.

After all, they're part of your story too.

    A few tips:

    • Bring someone to help with your pet, since they won’t be in every photo.
    • Bring water and their favorite toy.
    • Bring a few treats.

I love when pets are part of the session.

Many times, they were the first “baby” in the family, right?

To Make Your Session Even More Special

    • Get a good night’s sleep before and try to keep the day stress-free.
    • Wear loose clothing beforehand so your belly doesn’t get marks.
    • Remove watches and bracelets a few hours before to avoid lines on your skin.
    • Turn off your phone during the session and be fully present in every moment.

    Album: Preserve This Moment

After your session, you can turn your photos into a beautiful hard-cover album with rigid pages.

It becomes a gift for you, for your baby, and for the future.

    Your Session is almost here

    Your session is almost here.

At this point, you already have everything you need to prepare with confidence.

Don't worry about posing or knowing what to do in front of the camera.

Throughout the session, I will guide you every step of the way so you can feel comfortable and enjoy the experience.

My goal is for you to focus on this special moment while I take care of the details.

I look forward to seeing you soon.
